Couple of 66 years die three hours apart

GEORGE TOWN: It was love at first sight when they met and their marriage lasted 66 years.
The love between Ho Khye Soo, 90, and his wife Ong Phin Nyar, 82, seemed so great that even death could not separate them when they passed away about three hours apart.

Ho died at 5.45pm on Sunday at their home in Bandar Baru Air Itam while praying for his ailing wife, who died at 9.10pm. Their eldest son Prof Dr King Kok, 65, said his father was relatively healthy and had no illness.

“He visited my mum, who was in a coma due to kidney failure, at a hospital a day before they died. We tried to prevent him from visiting her as we did not want him to feel bad,” he said at his parents’ home yesterday.

“However, he took matters into his own hands and hired a taxi to go to the hospital. He was quite upset when he saw my mum.”

He said the family had wanted to bring their mother home but Ho died before they could inform him of their decision.

“But he went ahead of mum and she followed him, like she always had in life.”

Dr King Kok said his parents had been married for 66 years and had four sons and a daughter.
“They met at my mother’s hometown in Padang Serai during the Japanese Occupation.

“My dad was a surveyor and happened to be in the town. He was 24 while my mum was 16. She was strikingly beautiful with fair skin and my dad fell for her at first sight,” he said.
He added that his parents loved to eat durians together. “My dad preferred his durian slightly bitter while mum liked hers sweet.”

His brother Johny, 60, said: “My mother was an old-fashioned woman with strong family values. She took good care of us.”

Ho’s first wife, with whom he had three children, died 10 years ago.

The cortege will leave the residence at 14-A, Jalan Angsana at Bandar Baru Air Itam for the Batu Gantong Crematorium on Thursday at 11am.

I'm pretty sure it has been a bittersweet 66 years for them. . Ups and downs but they managed to pull through it together. .

"They" said that it's always better to "go" first because u won't have to be the one left around suffering and reminiscing. .

U won't have to be the one thinking about him/her. .

U won't have to be the one sleeping every night hoping u would see and feel him/her in ur dreams. .

U won't have thoughts of seeing them, feeling their touch, smelling their scent or hearing them everyday just like how it was for that many years all the time. .

But, it's better to be the one that "go" later. .

Because u don't want to see ur loved one suffer, u rather suffer the post of it. .

He once told me that he would rather I go first. .

I stoned for a moment and thought to myself. . "why?"

Well, enlightened, I finally got what he meant. .

Yes, u are right. . I would decide to "go" after as well after understanding the meaning behind it. . .

An article caught my eye last night. . I still can't get over it. . I'm emotionally attached to it. . It's too TRAGIC !!!
It's devastating. . It's friggin SAD! :'(((((((((((
I don't know. . it left me completely speechless and I just wanted to share the tragic story. .
It really depends on each individual how they interpret the story and the moral values behind it perhaps. .

One smarttttttty pants told me. . "moral of the story: propose indoors"
and like what Shrek said, "u'll never know how to treasure it until u lose it."
Another told me. . ."that's why must always appreciate"

I don't know. . I see it rather differently. . Perhaps some similarity in thoughts and opinions but rather fate being the keyword to me. .
Life is so unpredictable. . cherish every moment cause it may be ur last, they always say. .
Well, yea! People tend to neglect bits and pieces of their life. . It's more of a habituation. . U see it everyday, u get habituated to it being there. . Maybe?


Well, bottomline, WE WILL NEVER KNOW!! WE WONT KNOW. . . if tomorrow will ever come. .
Fate, fate, fate. . it's all in the book . . .changeable? I don't know. . Change for the good, hopefully, change of fate for the worse, let's avoid that, shall we?

Lightning Kills Woman Before Proposal

Fiance: 'I turned around and she was laying a few feet away'

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Richard Butler wanted his girlfriend to think they were just taking a scenic hike in the North Carolina mountains, but he had a secret plan. When they got to the top, he planned to pull out a ring and ask her to be his bride.

Lightning struck three times as the Knoxville, Tenn., couple were on Max Patch Bald, near Asheville. The third hit Butler, 30, and his girlfriend, Bethany Lott, 25, killing her on Friday, he told the Asheville Citizen Times. He suffered third degree burns.
"She didn't say anything, and I turned around and she was laying a few feet away, and I crawled to her," he told the newspaper on Monday. "I did CPR for probably 15 minutes and the whole time was trying her cell phone, but I couldn't get anything out."

He described the lightning strike.
"I was spun 180 degrees and thrown several feet back," he told the newspaper. "My legs turned to Jello, my shoes were smoking and the bottom of my feet felt like they were on fire."
His mother, Janet Delaney, said her future daughter-in-law loved the mountains.
"She hiked thousands of miles and spent a couple of years in Utah just hiking," Delaney, also of Knoxville, told The Associated Press.
She and her son are mourning instead of celebrating the joy the engagement would have brought.
"The first couple of times I met her, I felt she was my own daughter," Delaney said. "She made my life complete and my son's life complete."

Heavy rain let up as the two walked toward the bald, but more bad weather returned including the lightning, Butler said.
"Her last words were, 'Look at how beautiful it is,'" Delaney said.


'Try to go on'
Butler turned around to see his fiancee lying on the hill.
Unable to carry her down the hill, Butler drove to the first home he found. A father and his son, who was home on leave from the Navy, jumped in Butler's truck and raced back to the bald.
"They stood on the top of the hill doing what they could for probably 20 minutes until the rescuers got there," Butler said.
After rescuers arrived, they tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Lott. Services for her will be this week in New Tazewell, Tenn.
Butler suffered third-degree burns, but Delaney said he hasn't been to a doctor despite her urging him to go. She said his emotions seem to be in good shape.
"He's holding up better than I thought he would," Delaney said tearfully, adding, "He's going to try to go on."

Well, cherishing? He cherished her alright! He wanted to propose to her! It's just a waste. . It's a damnnnnnn friggggiiiin waste!! I feel for him. .
Guilt? Maybe. . He might be blaming himself for bringing her up there. .
Or maybe for choosing that day. .
Or for choosing that time. .
Or for not being able to attend to her quicker than he did. .
Who knows. . We'll won't know how he felt. .
We can only guess how he felt, what he went through, what he is going through now and what he will have to go through. .
But the fact remains, is that what he really felt, is feeling and will be feeling true? correct?
We won't know. . .
